Scream VI
Rating:
The best entry in the Scream franchise since Craven's 96'
I have to admit that I am a fan of slashers and love it when directors change things up in the formula. Knowing Radio Silence's works I was excited to check out the latest entry in the Scream franchise! Scream VI follows the four survivors who leave Woodsboro behind and start a fresh chapter after the incident at Woodsbro

The fifth installment in the Scream franchise was great but I felt that there was something stale about it. The direction in this one is amazing! This is Radio Silence's movie and this is WHY I think that this installment is the best since Craven's '96. Everything here feels different. It's a twistier and more interesting story than the previous entry and it's bigger in every way possible. The core four is back and greater than ever! Dare I say that this core four is as good as the original core four of the franchise. On that thought, I think that the franchise will be fine on its own despite Neve Campbell's exit. In my opinion, the franchise is getting bigger and better in every installment since the fifth. Of course, it wouldn't be a SCREAM if the META commentary is not present! I love it when a movie is self-aware and makes fun of another slasher or calls out the tropes in the genre. Now, no film is perfect and this movie has one big disappointment which is the reveal at the end. It was underwhelming in a way but I thought that the motives were excellent.

Any slasher isn't qualified as a slasher film without having some brutal and nasty kills. I think it's safe to say that this is by far the most brutal scream entry in the franchise. Some of the kills were really nasty with tons of blood and guts. A scream entry wouldn't be good without having some legacy characters. Hayden Panetierre is finally back as Kirby! She was great but heavily sidelined in my opinion. Moreover, I have to mention that the cast did an excellent job this time around. Melissa Barera, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding were phenomenal and had great chemistry between them on screen. Jack Champion and Josh Segarra were good too. Overall, If you've been a fan of this franchise for a long time then you'll love this latest entry, and if not then this is the time to say goodbye to the franchise. It's a scream, baby!
