Another generic and boring Netflix film!

I present to you all Netflix's "masterpiece" and by masterpiece, I mean another generic and boring action film. The Mother follows a deadly female assassin who comes out of hiding to protect the daughter that she gave up years before, while on the run from dangerous men.

Jennifer Lopez (The Mother) and Lucy Paez (Zoe) in The Mother (2023)

First off let's start with the writing. Yeah, I don't know how what happened here but the plot is your typical action movie plot. You know how the story goes, how it ends and you'll see the "twists" miles ahead of the ending. It really is a shame that Netflix still produces different films with different actors that all utilize the same formula. The dialogue was also cringe-worthy and atrociously written. Secondly, we need to discuss these mixed performances. Since this film mainly revolves around Lopez's character I couldn't take her seriously in the role despite her miserable efforts. She felt out of place and unbelievable in the dramatic and "powerful" moments. Lucy Paez was great but maybe overreacted at times which is fine considering her age. Joseph Fiennes while having barely any presence in the film made it enjoyable to watch. I've seen his work in The Handmaid's Tale and absolutely loved his performance there so it was no surprise to me here.

Joseph Fiennes (Adrian) in The Mother (2023)

If you know me well, I am a fan of action films, especially the bloody ones. Despite this factor being present here, none of the action sequences present in the film here made me entertained. It felt generic, lazy, and most definitely apathetic. Now the only thing that I enjoyed here was the beautiful cinematography. Ben Seresin did an excellent job of capturing the snowy and desperate landscape. It added a factor of enjoyability here which was definitely a surprise to me, to say the least. Overall, if you're looking for some time to spend then give this a watch.
