A bigger and more ambitious sequel!

"Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse" is what I consider a masterpiece and one of my favorite films of all time. It revolutionized the animation genre and had a huge impact on the film industry. 5 years later, we finally got to see the highly-anticipated sequel, and let me tell you that they did not disappoint. "Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse" follows our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man who is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters the Spider Society, a team of Spider-People charged with protecting the Multiverse’s very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must set out on his own to save those he loves most.

Shameik Moore (Miles Morales) in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (2023)

What made the first Spider-Verse film a masterpiece was the story and characters that we were introduced to. Thankfully, the sequel does everything the first one did, but better in every way possible. The story is bigger, more ambitious, and much more interesting than the first one. What makes Spider-Man such an interesting character is his heart-wrenching journey and his emotional battle. The one thing that was a little missing from the first one was the drama. Surprisingly, the sequel upped the drama by a mile and left an emotional punch that was unexpected and that's what made me fall in love more with the universe and the characters. Everything and I mean everything is done better here and I couldn't be happier. What was more than excellent here was the villain. It's an original Spider-Man villain that has never been done or achieved on screen. Everything about him was great and those sequences made the film feel dark and scary in a way.Furthermore, I would like to praise the ending. It's one of the most jaw-dropping endings I've seen this year and I seriously wasn't ready for that shocking twist!

Jessica Drew (Issa Rae) in Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (2023)

All of this couldn't have worked or have been achieved without the incredible and flawless animation work. Wow! What made the first Spider-Verse film so special was the unique animation. It revolutionized cinema and the animation genre. The sequel did not double down, but, instead took it to the next level. Each frame felt like a crazy painting packed with life and details never seen before in any animated film. My mind still cannot comprehend how they made this piece of art and how good and eye-popping the visuals were.  Praise should also go towards this star-studded cast for giving some phenomenal performances. Shameik Moore was fine as Miles in the first one and I personally did not like his performance much. Surprisingly, Moore outdid himself and gave his best performance here. It's much closer to what I think Miles should act like and can't wait to see his work in the next film. Hailee Steinfeld did a phenomenal job as Gwen. On that thought, her character arc was excellently written. Everything about her was greatly expanded on and left me more than satisfied. Oscar Isaac was menacing as Miguel O'Hara and absolutely loved his villainous performance. Issa Rae and Andy Samberg did an equally great job at their roles too.

Finally, I want to praise Daniel Pemberton's fantastic score. It was a fest to my ears hearing this soundtrack. Each one of them complimented a respective character which added a lot more depth to the story and to the overall film. The 2 particular standouts for me were "Spider-Man 2099" and "Welcome to Nueva New York". They both were amazing! Honestly, this is close to Oppenheimer's score but honestly, nothing can beat Göransson's score in Oppenheimer. Overall, "Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse" surpasses the original in every way shape, and form and is officially my favorite Spider-Man film. Oh, and I cannot wait to see their work in "Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse"
