A funny and modern, and fresh take on Fincher's Fight Club!

"Bottoms" is what I would like to describe as a funny, weird, bloody, and fresh take on David Fincher's Fight Club. It is an unexpected little gem that's not to be missed. "Bottoms" follows unpopular best friends PJ and Josie who start a high school fight club to meet girls and lose their virginity. They soon find themselves in over their heads when the most popular students start beating each other up in the name of self-defense.

Rachel Sennott (PJ) and Ayo Edebiri (Josie) in Bottoms (2023)

First off, let's start with the plot here. I absolutely love the plot here even if it's a little silly. It's funny, full of twists and surprises and quite literally a female version of Fight Club! This is the funniest film of the year because I found myself laughing out loud quite often which surprised me. Moreover, I have to praise Selligman's direction in the ending. This ending was one of the best endings to a film I've seen this year. Everything came to a satisfactory and hilarious conclusion and that made me love it even more. My only issue with the plot is that some felt a little too silly and generic but that barely affected my overall enjoyment of the film because of Selligman's smart direction! It was self-aware and I loved it! Now let's discuss why I really loved this film. If you know me, I love violent films and man oh man does it not get bloody! This was perhaps the biggest shock factor in the film for me as I wasn't ready to see girls fighting each other and specific moments which I obviously can't discuss due to spoilers to get that bloody!

Rachel Sennott (PJ) and Ayo Edebiri (Josie) in Bottoms (2023)

Finally, I have to praise the performances here. Rachel Sennott I adore you! She killed it with her performance and Ayo Edebiri was freaking phenomenal! I seriously can't think of a better duo this year! Also, Marshawn Lynch was hilarious in his role! The rest of the cast was great too! Overall, I would strongly recommend to watch one of the best films of the year and I cannot wait to see Selligman's next work! If you were craving more Fight Club then look no further!
