A good and surprising thanksgiving meal!
Thanksgiving was a movie that I was looking forward to watching in theaters but missed it and I really wish I didn't because it's one of the greatest horror films or slashers of the year! "Thanksgiving" follows an axe-wielding maniac who terrorizes residents of Plymouth, Massachusetts, after a Black Friday riot ends in tragedy. Picking off victims one by one, the seemingly random revenge killings soon become part of a larger, sinister plan.

At first, the film seemed like a cheap knock-off of the Halloween Franchise or even the Scream franchise but it certainly didn't feel like it when watching it. Eli Roth clearly shows his dedication and love to this project. Everything from the kills to the silly yet fully aware script was a delight! On that thought, I have to address the one issue with this film. I know that the script shouldn't be taken seriously but I really wish it was worked on more. I mean it's not bad but it's also not good but this was nothing but a small problem in what is an overall good film. Moreover, I have to praise Roth's messed-up imagination because those kills were truly gory! Some kills are truly gory and hard to watch and this will put a big smile on every slasher fan out there!

Now let's talk about those performances. Nell Verlaque was great in her role and showed how great she is as a final girl. The rest of the cast was fine but I really don't think that they were particularly good. Finally, I have to praise this film's setting. Taking Thanksgiving as a period to do a slasher film truly felt like a breath of fresh air! The look of the town and the overall mysterious atmosphere truly made for a spooky location! I really recommend watching one of this year's best horror films and my only wish for the sequel is to improve upon the script and some performances. Can't wait to see what Roth comes up with next!
