A fun Inglorious Basterds rip-off!

Guy Ritchie is who I consider a very inconsistent director with a very unique style. Well, how did this latest Ritchie picture fare? "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" follows British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and a group of military officials with a daring plan to neutralize Hitler's fleet of German U-boats during World War II.

Eiza González (Marjorie Stewart) in "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" (2024)

Where to start with this Inglorious Basterds rip-off? Firstly, the plot, as you might have guessed by now, shows heavy similarities between Inglorious Basterds and it. I mean it wants to be it so much to the point where Marjorie makes the same mistake as Micheal Fassbender's mistake in Tarantino's masterpiece! Despite the similarities, I still enjoyed the story beats through Ritchie's lens. Furthermore, I have to talk about that R rating. That was not fun as the movie took minimal advantage of its R rating. That unfortunately took out some of the fun factor out of the movie! I mean, over-the-top violence would have fit this movie perfectly and would have made it a lot more fun.

Henry Cavill (Gus March-Phillips) in "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" (2024)

Of course, no Guy Ritchie film is great without his personal touch! Everything from the picture-in-picture to the camera movement and music made it fun! Fortunately, that was what held the movie together along with the performances. On that thought, I have to praise the cast here. Henry Cavill and Alan Ritchson stole the show with their performances. They kept the movie from falling apart and would like to see them in a buddy comedy! Til Schweiger did an equally good job too! Despite being an Inglorious Basterds rip-off, Ritchie's direction makes "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" a fun watch!
