Bad Boys : Ride or Die
Rating:
The Fast and Furiousication of "Bad Boys"!
The "Bad Boys" franchise has always been considered one of cinema's most entertaining action franchises. After watching the latest entry, the question I asked myself was "Did we need this film?". Well, the short answer is NO! "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" follows wisecracking Miami cops Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett who embark on a dangerous mission to clear their late police captain's name when he gets linked to the cartel.
First off, I must discuss the story. It's a very basic, barebones, and extremely predictable story. What made me angry was how dumb this franchise has become and how predictable and generic it all felt. You'll see every twist coming a mile ahead and the villain is perhaps the weakest in the franchise! Despite all that I still enjoyed thanks to Adil and Bilal's excellent direction. They bring a certain energy to the franchise making it more exciting than ever! Everything from the unique style of approach in the action sequences to the solid direction made for a fun ride. On that thought, I have to talk about the action. The action was superb here and felt frantic and energetic!
Now I do have 2 minor issues with the action here. Firstly, since this is R-rated, I would have loved that Bilal and Adil took a bloodier and more violent route with the action which would have made it slightly better. Secondly, the CGI was unfortunately not so good-looking. Some shots looked fine while others felt cheap and fake! Finally, I must discuss the Bad Boys! After 29 years, Will Smith and Martin Lawrence's electric chemistry still is the best thing about those films! Also, that Micheal Bay cameo was quite unexpected! All in all, and despite being predictable, "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" is still a fun ride!
