A tense and thrilling journey!

"A Quiet Place" is a franchise known for its interesting concept and setting. When they announced that they were making a prequel, I couldn't help but feel excited to see how all this started. Well, was it worth it? "A Quiet Place: Day One" follows a woman and other survivors who try to find a way to safety in New York City. They soon learn that they must remain absolutely silent as the mysterious creatures are drawn to the slightest sound.

Joseph Quinn (Eric) and Lupita Nyong'o (Samira) in "A Quiet Place: Day One" (2024)

First off, the story here was good but not great. Don't go in expecting it to be like either 2 parts and you won't be disappointed. What felt disappointing here was that awful ending and the lack of anything interesting. I don't know who came up with that ending but whoever it was he was definitely smoking something! Furthermore, while the setting here is quite interesting and quite special for this kind of film I would have liked it if the film explored a bit more of the origin of those creatures and dove into their habits. Unfortunately, the film barely touched upon that and gave us a pretty regular and predictable journey. What I really liked this time was the focus on the drama. I loved most of the interaction between our 2 stars here! They carried the film and were the heart and soul of it! On that thought, I have to praise Quinn's and Nyong'o's performances here. They were phenomenal, especially Nyong'o!  Praise should also go towards Hounsou who also stole the show with his minimal screen time!

Lupita Nyong'o (Samira) and Dijmon Hounsou (Henri) in "A Quiet Place: Day One" (2024)

As with any past entries in this franchise, this film is littered with intense and thrilling sequences. For a PG-13 movie, this film has tons of blood and It was surely a pleasant surprise. Despite being a tad repetitive towards the middle, everything from the subtle violence to the great sound design made for a terrific and intense experience! On that note, If you're planning to watch this in cinemas watch it in IMAX as the sound alone makes it a worthy experience! While it might not rival its predecessors, "A Quiet Place: Day One" is still a thrilling and intense journey!
