The Boys are back!
2 years ago, Eric Kripke gave us "The Boys Season 3"; which in my opinion is one of the best seasons in TV history! Fast forward 2 years, we finally got to see "The Boys Season 4"! Was it worth the wait? The short answer is Yes and it was DIABOLICAL! "The Boys Season 4" follows Victoria Neuman who is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca's son, as well as his job as The Boys' leader.
What makes the show so excellent is how it subverts the superhero genre. Thankfully, the show continues the tradition here and gives us more of these twisted and interesting stories. At the heart of it all, those stories carry political and social commentaries that are relevant and quite funny! And while the show might get lost in its own ambition, maybe too many times, it still carries the same quality as the past seasons! Furthermore, I have to praise the writers for how well these characters are written! Whether it be Homelander, A-Train, or Black Noir everyone had a meaningful character development this season. Homelander is back and he's as unpredictable as ever! This season really dived deep into his character and showed us his more vulnerable side. But what really surprised me this season was A-Train's character arc! His character arc was satisfying to watch and brought a smile to my face!
None of these characters could have been brought to life without some talented actors. Firstly, I must praise Antony Starr for delivering a masterful performance yet again! Secondly, I must praise Karl Urban for his amazing performance as Butcher! This guy is as badass and cold as ever, especially in that finale! Praise should also go toward the rest of the cast, particularly to Jack Quaid, Claudia Doumit, and Jessie T. Usher for delivering some phenomenal performances. Despite all those excellent performances, one person managed to surprise which is none other than Simon Pegg! If you've watched this show from the beginning you'd know that it's also known for its extreme violence and sexual content! To no one's surprise, this season has been yet another extremely violent season filled with tons of guts and also a ton of nudity and sex! All in all, and while this season might have lost a bit of control, it still manages to be another fantastic season to an already masterful show. Can't wait to see what Kripke and the team cook for the final season!
