A fun film that's full of Nostalgia!

Wahoo! We're now in an era where we're finally getting good video game adaptions. We've seen the massive success of "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners" and this year's massive hit "The Last Of Us", both that I've personally enjoyed. Well, how well made is The Super Mario Bros. Movie? The film follows Mario who gets ready to square off against the all-powerful Bowser with the help of his allies to stop his plans from conquering the world.

Chris Pratt (Mario) and Charlie Day (Luigi) in The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)

Visually speaking this film is extremely well made! I couldn't keep my eyes off the popping and vibrant visuals. Every single detail down to the minor and irrelevant things in the background was intricately modeled and animated. On that thought, I recommend you check this film in IMAX 3D because it elevated the experience so much for me. Enough with the visuals. Let's discuss the clogging problem here. The story basically clogs this movie. Sure, the easter eggs and references to the games were a nice touch but the movie actually feels like a speedrun of the game. Clocking at a short runtime of 90 minutes, the film never fails to entertain you and that's a good and bad thing! By the end of Mario's journey, you'll start to notice how rushed the movie is. An additional 30 to 40 minutes could have helped this film so much.

Chris Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), and Keegan-Micheal Key (Toad) in The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)

Furthermore, the film actually got 2 things wrong and I just couldn't help but talk about them. First off, my major problem with the film is that they got the character of Mario all wrong. Unfortunately, in this film, he's portrayed as a dumb and stupid character. In the game, he's portrayed as courageous and headstrong which is totally different than the film. The reason why HBO's The Last Of Us was such a hit was because of how they treated the characters. Second of all, can I know what the writers were on while writing this film?  Why was Peach training Mario in the middle of the movie and why was Luigi sidelined while the film clearly has the word "Bros." in the title? Moreover, I would like to mention the awful song choice in this film. Can I know why "Take on Me" was playing in the film? These all were illogical to me and certainly lowered my rating.

Seth Rogen (Donkey Kong), Chriss Pratt (Mario), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), and Fred Armisen (Cranky Kong)

On the bright side of things, I absolutely LOVED the music and the voice acting. The music by Brian Tyler and Koji Kondo was magical! It brought so much nostalgia and made the film a lot more fun and entertaining to watch. Now let's talk about that voice acting. I had my doubts about Chris Pratt but I think he did a fairly good job with his version of Mario. Chris Day as Luigi and Jack Black as Bowser were the highlights of the film but let's not forget who's the real STAR of the show here! Juliet Jelenic as Lumalee stole the show with her performance. Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong did a great job with their roles. Overall, if you're looking for something entertaining to watch with your family then look no further cause The Super Mario Bros. will be there to entertain you! Oh, and "Peaches" was incredible!
