An epic and fitting conclusion to the show!

When it first got announced that they were continuing Uthred's journey in the film, my hype for the final season of The Last Kingdom went away. Thankfully the final season of the show was fantastic and I am happy to say that this is how it should have ended! The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die follows Uthred and his comrades who strive to form a united England, following the death of King Edward.

Alexander Dreymon (Uthred),  Mark Rowley (Finan), and Arnas Fedaravicius (Sihtric) in The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die (2023)

One thing that I feared the most was how well was the writing going to be. I kept asking myself the same question over and over again "How are they going to surpass the excellent writing in the show?".  I am extremely happy to say that Martha Hillier who was the writer on the show outdid herself! Wow! Now this is how you END 5 seasons of The Last Kingdom. The mix between comedy and drama was well-balanced here! It gave a nice conclusion to everyone here and I couldn't be happier than this as a fan of the show. Trust me you'll be reaching for your tissues by the end of this journey that is full of heartache and sadness. I won't be discussing any more story-related things because of spoilers. On that thought, I need to discuss one thing that annoyed me a bit. This film has a short runtime and for that reason, my score went down. Too much story was squeezed into this tight runtime which made it annoying to watch.

Alexander Dreymon (Uthred),  Mark Rowley (Finan), and Arnas Fedaravicius (Sihtric) in The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die (2023)

Now, let's talk about the cast and the phenomenal score used here. Wow! Alexander Dreymon performed at his best in this film. He was outstanding as Uthred! Arnas Fedaravicius, Cavan Clerkin, James Northcote, Elaine Cassidy, and Ewan Horrocks were amazing in their roles but the standout for me was Mark Rowley. That arsling is still funny as hell and added a much-needed touch of humor in this dark historical epic. Moreover, the score used here was a feast for my ears. Eivør Pálsdóttir has an incredible and jaw-dropping voice that will leave you hypnotized and I mean it in a good way! However, my eyes weren't feasting at all while watching this film because the color palette was dark and looked off in every scene. I couldn't see anything and I was annoyed for most of the runtime!

Cavan Clerkin (Father Pyrlig) in The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die (2023)

Last but not least, I need to mention the epic action sequences. While never surpassing any action moment in the last kingdom, the film nevertheless features some excellently choreographed brutal and gory fight sequences. Overall, I think that fans of the show are in for a blast if they decide to watch Uthred's journey continue, and also fans of history will also be dining in Valhalla alongside them!
